Honestly, sometimes it is. Buy the hardware-store kit when:
- You are selling the house within a year or two. A fresh, uniform, chip-flecked floor photographs great, and service life past the closing date is not your problem.
- The budget is genuinely capped near $200. A carefully installed budget kit beats a bare, dusting slab. Full stop.
