Frequently Asked Questions
What can I use EF-191 on?
It's designed for kitchen and bathroom countertops, butcher blocks, bar tops, tabletops, river tables, and charcuterie boards, anywhere you want a clear, durable, high-gloss epoxy surface.
Is EF-191 food-safe?
When properly mixed and cured, EF-191 meets requirements for indirect food contact and use in food plants, which covers counters, bar tops, butcher blocks, and charcuterie boards. Because results depend on correct mixing and curing by the user, each finished application should be assessed individually.
How thick can I pour it?
Up to 1/4” (250 mils) per application. A 2-gallon kit covers about 12 sq ft at 1/4”, 26 sq ft at 1/8”, or 50 sq ft at 1/16”.
How do I get a clear, bubble-free finish?
Mix Part A and Part B for no more than 1 minute on a low-speed drill to limit air entrapment, roll on with a fine 10 mm roller, then pass a torch lightly over the surface to pop residual bubbles. Seal very porous substrates with a thin coat first.
How long until it cures?
At 68°F you can recoat in 18 to 24 hours and handle the surface in about a day. Full chemical cure takes roughly 7 days. Wait for full cure before heavy daily use. Protect it from moisture and water for the first 48 hours.
Will EF-191 turn yellow?
As an epoxy, it will amber under prolonged direct UV exposure. For pieces in strong sunlight, keep them shaded or apply a UV-stable topcoat over the cured epoxy.
What is the working time after mixing?
About 30 to 40 minutes at 70°F. Pour and spread promptly, and never leave mixed product sitting in the bucket. It will heat up and set quickly.
How is EF-191 different from EF-195 casting resin?
EF-191 is a countertop coating for pours up to 1/4”, counters, bar tops, and tabletops. EF-195 is a low-exotherm deep-pour casting system for thick castings and river tables where you need to pour in much deeper lifts.
