Epoxy flooring accessories, sorted by job

The coating gets the attention, but a floor is won or lost on the small stuff: the edge the big grinder cannot reach, the roller cover that sheds, the glove that tears. Here is what is in this collection, grouped the way a crew uses it.

Application tools: spread, roll, walk the floor

The squeegee spreads the poured material and sets the film. The 18 in roller on the Big Ben frame back-rolls it even and lays the topcoat. Spike shoes let you walk the wet coat to back-roll and broadcast flake without footprints. Two rules save money here: scrape the squeegee before the epoxy sets on the rubber, and use a fresh roller cover for every coat, because there is no solvent to wash 100% solids epoxy out of the nap.

Prep and protection

Angle grinders and cup wheels for edge prep

A planetary floor grinder does the open slab. It cannot get into corners, along walls, around posts or up steps, and the coating will only bond where the concrete was opened up. That is the hand grinder's job.

• Metabo HPT G18ST. A 7 in, 15 A grinder with a sealed armature and labyrinth construction that keeps concrete dust out of the motor bearings. Holds a 7 in diamond cup wheel in the cut for coating removal and slab profiling.
• Metabo WEV 15-125 HT. A 5 in, 120 V grinder with a speed wheel from 2,800 to 9,600 rpm, rated for polishing. The one for perimeter work that has to match a ground or polished floor, and for wire brushing at low speed.

Both take a 5/8 x 11 spindle thread, so they run standard US cup wheels. Diamond cup wheels are in cup wheels. Grinding concrete makes silica dust, so fit a dust shroud and run a HEPA extractor from dust collectors and vacuums. Both grinders are sold by quote. Gloves and PPE

Repeated skin contact with epoxy can sensitize an installer, and consistent glove use is the main guard against it. Wear nitrile every time. The Latux 5 mil black nitrile glove is powder-free and latex-free and comes 100 to a box in small through extra large. More protection is in safety and PPE.
