What South Florida does to a floor

Most of what goes wrong on a job down here is not the resin. It is the slab, the air, and the calendar. Six conditions do nearly all the damage, and every one of them is worse here than in the pictures on a national supplier's website.

The slab is wet, and it will tell you later

Slab on grade over a high water table is the normal case here, not the exception. Add a young pour, a vapor retarder that got torn during the build, or a room that sits below the surrounding grade, and moisture pushes up into the bond line and lifts the floor months after it looked perfect. The fix is a test and then a barrier, in that order. Do not buy material for a slab you have not tested. Humidity and the dew point

You can do everything right and still lose a floor to the air. High humidity on an uncured epoxy gives you amine blush, a greasy haze that kills the bond of the next coat, and a slab that is colder than the air will condense water on itself while you are standing on it. The working rule is that the slab needs to be at least 5 degrees F above the dew point and heading up, not down. Check the slab temperature, not the air temperature. If it is marginal, wait, or you will be grinding it off.

Heat takes your working time away

A kit that rode two hours in the bed of a truck in August is not the same product that left our shelf. Warm material kicks faster, the exotherm builds faster in the pail than it does on the floor, and the working time printed on the sheet assumes a material temperature you probably do not have. Keep kits conditioned, mix smaller batches than you would in February, get it out of the pail and onto the slab, and check the sheet against the temperature you actually have. The afternoon storm

From roughly May to October you get a daily convective cell, usually mid afternoon, and it does not care about your schedule. A pour that starts at 11 and a floor that is still green at 3 is a bad plan if the bay doors have to stay open for ventilation. Wind driven rain across an open door reaches further than people expect. Start early, plan the last pour so it is closed in before the cell arrives, and have a way to shut the building.

Hurricane season, June 1 to November 30

Six months a year, the jobs and the supply chain both go sideways on short notice. Buildings get shuttered, commercial work gets deferred, crews lose days, and material that was two days out becomes two weeks out. The practical answer for a contractor is to hold the material for the work you have already sold rather than ordering it the week you need it. We stock, and holding stock locally is most of the reason a supply house exists.

Coastal slabs

Near the water the air carries salt, and chloride finds its way into concrete and into anything ferrous inside it. Parking decks, oceanfront garages, docks and the ground floors of buildings a block from the beach all age differently from the same slab five miles inland. That changes the prep, because a contaminated surface does not bond, and it changes the wear course, because the finish is taking abrasion and salt at the same time. If the job is on the water, say so on the phone and we will spec it differently.

Supplied, or supplied and installed

Most of what leaves this building goes out on somebody else's truck. We sell to flooring and coatings crews, concrete polishing outfits, general contractors buying for one build, facility and maintenance teams looking after their own slabs, distributors buying at tier, and experienced owner installers. Pricing, pack sizes and the way we answer the phone are all set up for people doing this for a living. We are an authorized dealer for every brand we sell, so warranty, parts and technical support come through us rather than through a third party.

We also install. We install anywhere in Broward, Miami-Dade and Palm Beach counties. If you would rather hand the floor over than coat it yourself, the same people who would have sold you the material scope the job instead. Outside those three counties, call us. We work with a network of installers across the US, and we will place the job with the right crew for it. These are people whose floors we have stood on. Saturday by appointment, which means call first and we will meet you. Crews come to this counter from all over Broward, Miami-Dade and Palm Beach, and it is the same counter whether you are buying one pail or loading a job.

Can I pick up the same day?

Yes, on anything we hold in stock. Call (800) 413-1427 with what you need and we will have it staged. Pickup is at 2201 N Andrews Ave, Suite 108, Pompano Beach, FL 33069, Monday to Friday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Saturday is by appointment.

What can I actually walk out with, and what has to ship?

Coatings in pails, flake, pigment, application tools, accessories and safety gear are on the shelf and go out the door with you. Grinders and anything that moves on a pallet are quoted and shipped by freight, because access at the job site changes the cost.

Do you deliver, or only ship?

Consumables ship UPS Ground, free on orders over $150 and charged by weight under that. Machines and pallets move by freight and are quoted per job. Local pickup at the Pompano Beach counter is free on everything we stock.

Do you speak Spanish and Portuguese?

Yes. English, Spanish and Portuguese, on the phone and at the counter.

Do you have contractor pricing?

We run Contractor, Distributor and VIP trade tiers. They are applied to your account rather than shown as a public discount, so your pricing follows you at checkout on every order without a code. Apply online or set it up over the phone.
