Which epoxy pigment do you need?

There are two kinds of epoxy color pigment here, and they make two different floors. Metallic pigment is a pearlescent powder that moves inside a clear resin and gives you veining, depth and a floor that changes with the light. Solid Tone is a liquid colorant that turns a base coat into one even, repeatable color. Pick the floor first, then the pigment.

How much pigment per kit of epoxy

Dose by the kit, not by eye, so every batch on the floor carries the same pigment load and the color matches from kit to kit.

• Metallic, 160 g pod. One pod per 3-gallon kit of clear base. Pre-measured, so every kit on a multi-kit pour carries the same load and the floor reads uniform.
• EF-Masterflow. It is a 4-gallon kit. Use one pod per kit, from 160 g up to 210 g for a denser metallic.
• Metallic, 50 g jar. Three jars per 3-gallon kit, about one jar per gallon.
• Solid Tone. One 1 liter pod per 3-gallon kit. Add it to Part A, the resin, before you mix in the hardener.

Count your kits, then buy one dose per kit on the same order. Stock moves color by color, and finding out you are one pod short with a half-poured floor is not a problem you fix that day.

Splitting one dose between colors

Two-color metallic floors are fine. Keep the total pigment in each kit at the normal dose and split it between the colors. Do not add a second full dose. The 50 g jars make this easy: in a 3-gallon kit, run two jars of one color and one jar of another. Colors far apart in value, a light and a dark, give the veining that reads from across the room. Mix a sample board with your real resin before you commit a floor.

Which resins take metallic epoxy pigment

Metallic pigment needs a clear 100% solids base, poured heavy enough for the pigment to travel. These are the ones we sell for it:

• EF-Masterflow. The purpose-built metallic resin, a 4-gallon kit with 30 to 40 minutes of working time at 70 degrees F.
• LTX-100. High-flow clear, one 160 g pod per 3-gallon kit.
• PPC Epoxy 100 Clear. Zero VOC clear base under metallic and flake.
• EF-155. Recoats in 2 to 4 hours for a same-day metallic, but its working time is only about 10 minutes, so mix small batches.

Finish with a UV-stable polyaspartic topcoat from polyaspartic topcoats. Metallic pigment is what sunlight attacks first, and the topcoat takes the wear instead of the color. Solid color pigment for base coats and flake floors

If the floor needs one flat, exact color, that is a Solid Tone job, not a metallic. Tint a clear base like EF-100, EF-150 or EF-155 and the color holds the same from the first section to the last. EF-100 also comes factory tinted in Clear, White, Beige, Light Grey, Medium Grey and Black if a stock color works.

How much pigment per gallon of epoxy?

About 50 g per gallon for metallic: one 160 g pod per 3-gallon kit, or one 50 g jar per gallon. Solid Tone is one 1 liter pod per 3-gallon kit.

Is metallic epoxy pigment a powder or a paste?

Our metallic pigment is a powder, in 160 g pods and 50 g jars. Solid Tone is a liquid.

Can I mix two metallic colors in one kit?

Yes. Split one dose between them and keep the total at one pod, or three 50 g jars, per 3-gallon kit.

Can I use metallic pigment for a solid color floor?

No. Metallic pigment moves and varies by design, and it goes into a clear base. For one even color, use a Solid Tone pod.
