What is in a urethane cement system

Two kits make the floor. Krete Slurry SL is the floor itself, poured and self-leveled. Krete Topcoat seals it smooth matte, or locks in a silica broadcast where the floor runs wet. Both come in Gray, Light Gray, Red, Yellow, Green and Cream. Every number below is from the product pages.

For grip, broadcast silica at about 0.4 lb per sq ft into the topcoat.

When a floor needs urethane cement, not epoxy

Epoxy is a film a few mils thick. Hit it with steam or a hot hose on a cold slab and the bond line lets go. A polyurethane cement floor goes down at 1/8 in or more and moves with the concrete, so thermal shock does not lift it. Dry storage and packaging halls do fine with epoxy coatings, and most plants split the spec: urethane cement on the wet side, epoxy on the dry side. This is not a DIY floor. The slab is shotblasted to CSP 2 to 3, each kit is mixed whole, and a crew has 23 to 27 minutes of working time at 72F. The Krete kits are not sold from the cart. A rep prices the job off square footage, color, freight and lead time. We install in Broward, Miami-Dade and Palm Beach counties, and outside those we work with a network of installers across the US.

Common questions

How thick is urethane cement flooring?

Krete Slurry SL goes down at 1/8 to 3/16 in. The heavier build is for cook rooms, brewhouses and floors that take impact.

How many kits do I need?

At 1/8 in, one slurry kit covers 35 sq ft, so a 700 sq ft kitchen takes 20 kits before cove, drains and waste. The rep works the full count into the quote.

Does the slab need a moisture test first?

The Slurry SL page says moisture testing is not required before install. Shotblast prep is.

Can it go in a cooler or freezer?

The published service range reaches down to 26.5F. For a deep-freeze room, give us the holding temperature and we get a written answer from the manufacturer.
